Big Sam
Big Sam had a teenage daughter
He loved that girl but one night he caught
'er
With a young man name o' Roscoe Woody
He ran the boy off as she
screamed how could he
Then she told Sam bout the baby
It would be here by
the springtime maybe
She told him that the baby she'd carry
But she and
Roscoe won't gonna marry
Sam went into a rage.
Big Sam called up two of his men and said
Bring young Woody to the back
hog pen,
I want you to teach that boy a lesson
Let him know not to be
messin' with
Big Sam or you gonna be payin'
I want him beat until he
starts prayin'
Then tell him if I catch him wid' my girl agin
We'll bring
him right back to old hog pen
Big Sam meant what he said.
That night young Roscoe Woody died
Sam's daughter she screamed and she
cried
Sam said it won't supposed to happen
He just told the boys to give
him a slappin'
But the state law came for Big Sam and his men
Tried 'em in
court and sent 'em to the state pen
Big Sam's house went up for sale
His
daughter said she hoped he'd rot in jail.
Things were fallin' apart for Big
Sam.
Big Sam died in the prison from cancer But mostly they said the
lights burned low
His daughter got a job in a club as a
dancer And the new road was too slick in the snow
And later
everybody tried to recall Old Sam deserved just what he'd gotten
The things Big Sam had done for them all, It won't too long before Sam
was forgotten
And that was the way it
ended for Big Sam.
