Fairy Tales
When I was a child my mother
would read
Fairy tales to me
Nursery rhymes about long ago times
In
places that could never be
Still my eyes would get big as I listened so
close
About a cow jumping over the moon
How Little Bo Peep had lost all of
her sheep
And a dish ran away with a spoon.
But I knew no cow could jump over the moon
It made no sense at all
They
were just rhymes about fantasy times
That never really happened at all
The years went by and I became a young man
And fell so in love with
you
You were my princess, you called me your prince
I said 'a fairy tale
has come true'
We stood and kissed at a wishing well
Oh what a magical
night
I told you my wish was you'd love me forever
And then I held you
tight
And I thought maybe that cow jumped over the moon
And that egg really fell
off a wall
Who is to say there's no fantasy land
Look at us after all
You pledged me your love always and ever
I gave my heart to you
But
like those tales my mother once read
I found out you were not true
You had
your eyes on another prince
Our love was make believe
I trusted every tale
that you told
I should have known it couldn't be
Oh you said "I love you, I'll always be true"
Every sweet word I
recall
But they were just rhymes about fantasy times
You never really
loved me at all
That dish never ran away with a spoon
That egg didn't fall off a
wall
That little girl never lost them damn sheep
And you never really
loved me, no you never loved me
You never really loved me at all.
